Have your gutters cleaned to clear debris and protected with mesh to stop it from returning. Your gutters protect your home from thousands of gallons of water annually, so keep them clear and clean.

 

Zip Up Your Luxury Custom Lake Home

Make sure the “zippers” are well functioning – in other words, check your weather-stripping and caulk around your doors and windows! Any area that leaks and allows cold air in is like leaving your jacket unzipped.

 

Don’t Blow a Gasket (or a pipe)

Turn off all the outside faucets and valves that serve the outdoors and be sure they are drained and closed off. This includes your underground sprinkler system.

 

Let your Furnace Breathe Easy

Replace the filter in your furnace. Clogged filters make it more difficult for your home to heat. Disposable filters can be vacuumed once a month to keep them breathing free and clear, too.

Have a chimney sweep perform a full fireplace and chimney inspection to be sure your fires are not only cozy and warm this winter, but safe as well. This is also a good time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

 

A Humid Home is a Happy Home

Keep the humidifier running in the winter. It is not only good for your personal health, but it also keeps your home healthy. The woodwork in your home can become cracked and dry over the winter; keeping the humidifier running can keep it from becoming damaged.
