Southeastern Wisconsin is an incredibly desirable location to live, and the “Lake Country” area is one of the most desirable. When considering building a custom home and more specifically a custom lake home, you can not go wrong choosing a lot or a tear down to build your dream home.
Why Build a Custom Home in Lake Country
Lake Country consists of all the lakes and communities of Waukesha County. These include four large lakes which range in size from 1117 to 2942 acres, five medium lakes ranging from 400 – 1000 acres, and 14 small lakes that are 400 and fewer acres. Each of the lakes offers its own unique personalities and opportunities. While they all have public launches, the larger lakes, like Okauchee and Pewaukee also have restaurants and bars along the shoreline and entertainment like ski shows and concerts. You can find public beaches on Pewaukee, Nagawicka, Lac La Belle, Little Muskego, and Golden Lake.
Love tennis or golf clubs? Chenequa Country Club is on Beaver Lake and Oconomowoc Lake Club sits on the shores of Oconomowoc Lake. If you are looking to build your custom lake home on one of these beautiful lakes, Colby Construction can help you find the perfect lot on a lake that is right for you and your family.
Aside from lake living, the Lake Country offers a great quality of life with so much to offer. From hiking, biking, fishing, state, and county parks if you are an outdoor enthusiast, you will certainly find something to do. Lapham Peak State Park offers 17 miles of hiking trails, a 45-foot observation center, cross country skiing, mountain bike trails, camping sites, and more. The Ice Age Trail makes its way through Lake Country as well. Nashotah, Nagawaukee, Retzer Nature Center, and Ryan County parks offer hiking, nature centers, dog parks, and more. You won’t run out of places to take young children to play either. There is the Lake Country Rotary Splash Pad in Hartland at Nixon Park and a trail system that connects two other parks, Centennial and Hartbrook. Castle Park in Delafield is along the Veteran’s Memorial Walk that follows the Bark River. All of these parks include fun, safe equipment for the little ones to run around and enjoy.
Lake Country is also home to many wonderful restaurants and bars. Traditional steak houses, Mexican fare, farm-to-table, pizza, breweries, and pubs, the choices are unlimited and all within
almost 15 miles of anywhere you decide to call home. From national chains sprinkled throughout Delafield and Pewaukee, to small family-owned restaurants in Merton, Northlake and Stone Bank, there is something for everyone.
Community culture also includes public libraries in Hartland, Delafield, Oconomowoc, Pewaukee, and North Lake. Local theatre can be found at the Lake Country Playhouse in
Hartland and outdoor theatre at Summerstage. Live music can be found outdoors and indoors throughout the communities as well on most weekends.
From summer festivals, like the Stone Bank 4th of July Parade, street dances in Delafield and Hartland, pop-up beer gardens, you will definitely find fun in the communities of Lake Country.
The area also is home to some of the top schools in the state and Midwest. Arrowhead, Kettle Moraine, Pewaukee, and Oconomowoc are all top public districts.
